Shape the Products You Develop

S&A Systems is seeking an experienced Firmware/Hardware Design Engineer to join our collaborative engineering team. A family-owned company operating since 1970, we offer the stability of an established market leader with the creative, fast-moving approach of a startup. Employee ideas are welcomed and expected, and engineers have meaningful opportunities to shape the products they develop.

In this role, you will design and support a diverse range of embedded products, including automated vehicle location systems, vehicle data recorders, handheld terminals, fueling and dispensing systems, RF and gate readers, access-control equipment, digital signage, and wireless data links.

What You’ll Do

  • Own embedded product projects from concept through verification and documentation.
  • Develop schematic designs, PCB layouts, and embedded firmware.
  • Perform board bring-up, product testing, and hardware debugging.
  • Support products through development and continued field use.
  • Participate in occasional field testing and limited travel.

Core Qualifications

  • Embedded firmware development experience using C, C++, or C#.
  • PCB design and layout experience using Altium or similar tools.
  • Experience with electronic components, schematics, and technical datasheets.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience at the Design Engineer II or III level.

Preferred Experience

  • Embedded peripherals and protocols including SPI, CAN, UART, USB, and I²C.
  • Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, bootloaders, and debugging tools.
  • Microchip PIC processors and .NET test or verification software.
  • Transit, oil and gas, manufacturing, or construction-related industries.
