FLEETWATCH® ST55 SpeedoTap

The FLEETWATCH® ST55
Speedometer Tap Mileage Module

PRODUCT FEATURES

The ST55 Speedometer Tap Mileage Module automatically counts and records miles traveled, engine hours and idle hours. The ST55 tracks mileage by tapping into the signal between the vehicle transmission and the dash speedometer. Engine hours and idle hours are calculated by analyzing the constant power and switched power inputs, along with speedometer data to determine if the engine is running, and if so, whether the vehicle is moving.

When the ST55 receives a beacon signal from a receiving unit (see RECEIVER OPTIONS), it transmits the preprogrammed vehicle number, the life-to-date mileage of the vehicle, engine hours, idle hours, to the receiver. The data collected can be downloaded directly to an output device to generate mileage reports, or it can be combined with data collected from other FLEETWATCH® devices (see INTEGRATION WITH FLEETWATCH® FLUID MANAGEMENT SYSTEM) allowing completely automatic collection of vehicle number, life-to-date mileage, and amounts of all fluids dispensed.

Installation Procedure

The ST55 Speedometer Tap Mileage Module installs quickly and easily in any vehicle equipped with a compatible speedometer type. Please contact S&A Systems for a list of specifications to determine if you speedometer is compatible with the ST55 SpeedoTap Mileage Module.

The ST55 plugs directly into the speedometer connector on the back of the in-dash speedometer. A special pass-through connector accepts the original speedometer cable and allows the ST55 to monitor mileage and other data without affecting normal vehicle operation. The ST55 is connected to a constant power source, a switched power source on the speedometer that is only powered while the engine is running and a pulse signal from the speedometer. This allows the ST55 to monitor mileage while also sensing engine hours and idle hours.

The ST55 unit transmits the data stored within it to a receiver unit as the vehicle pulls in for servicing. This means the ST55 units is typically mounted where it can be conveniently read during fueling, such as over the drivers transom window or behind a fiberglass panel. Note: the ST55 unit should not be mounted behind or to a metal surface.

Before or during the installation process, the ST55 may be programmed with the life-to-date mileage of the vehicle as well as the vehicle ID. This feature eliminates the need to use confusing relative miles for scheduling maintenance, etc.

HA392 Hand Activated Receiver

The ST55 SpeedoTap Mileage Module, integrated with the FLEETWATCH® Fluid Management System or other Fluid Management Systems, allows automatic collection of vehicle number, life-to-date mileage, engine hours, idle hours and quantities of fuel and fluids dispensed.

A typical fueling sequence using the ST55 with the complete FLEETWATCH® Fluid Management System:

  • Vehicle pulls into fueling area where the driver/service attendant enters employee number into RIH Unit at the fuel island to begin the transaction.

  • In a fixed reader configuration (typically used for vehicles of similar type) the FR55 Fixed Reader prompts the ST55 module to transmit vehicle ID, life-to-date mileage, engine hours, and idle hours to begin the service transaction.

  • System verifies vehicle’s fuel type and unlocks only those fuels assigned to vehicle

  • Driver fills the vehicle and then resets the RIH unit to complete the transaction. The FLEETWATCH® System then records the vehicle number, mileage, engine hours, idle hours, driver ID, time and date of the transaction and the amount of fuel/fluids dispensed in the vehicle

Programming The ST55

The Model MR55 Mobile Receiver is used to initialize each ST55 SpeedoTap Mileage Module as well as reprogram those units that have already been put into service. The Programming Software included within the MR55 allows the user to enter or change vehicle number and current life-to-date mileage.

The ST55 can be reprogrammed by the user at any time using the above procedure. If a vehicle is sold or otherwise removed from the fleet, the speedotap mileage module can be removed and reprogrammed for another vehicle with a different vehicle number and mileage.
